The lessons can vary from teacher to teacher and can last from 1 to 3 hours. The average time for a first time student to learn the 24 forms is about 6 to 9 months depending on how much effort they put in and the attendance level they maintain. The 8, 16, Beijing 24 forms or the 37 chen-man ch'ing Yang tai chi sets are all good strong foundation tai chi sets for the beginner to learn. The 24 and 37 forms once learned can be the gateway to easier and a more skillful level of understanding if the student decides to progress with their tai chi studies.
